What Does A Missing Tooth Say About You?

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Houston Mini-Implants When you meet someone in Houston who is missing a front tooth, what does that say to you? Do you wonder if they were in an accident? Do you automatically start making assumptions about their income, level of education and overall physical health?

Though it is extremely unfair, we are often judged (and misjudged) by our appearance. Even if a person is impeccably dressed and groomed, a missing front tooth detracts from the overall pleasing impression.

Here is a personal story from a woman who lost a tooth:

I lost my job and along with it my dental insurance, then a month later, one of my front teeth. It has been very hard to find work…. and I know the missing tooth has cost me several jobs.”

A missing tooth can be a big deal.

Dental implants not only restore oral health, they restore self-confidence. Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. Studies have shown that after more than 20 years, the vast majority of dental implants placed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons continue to function at peak performance. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are one of the procedures we routinely perform at Willowbrook Dental Care to help our Houston clients regain the beautiful smile they once had. Not all cosmetic dental procedures are as extreme as teeth implants. There are many minimally-invasive remedies for unattractive smiles.

Porcelain veneers instantly provide a perfect, gleaming tooth surface for Houston clients with broken or discolored teeth. Tooth whitening is a quick and affordable dentistry procedure in Houston that achieves dramatic results without requiring the removal of any tooth structure. Call Willowbrook Dental Care at (281) 571-3760 for more information about smile design and restorative dentistry.

Cypress TX Dental News: Poor Oral Health And Heart Disease

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Top Houston Family Dentists Attention Cypress TX dental patients: brushing twice daily may help lower your risk of heart disease. Texas scientists, dentists, and cardiologists have known for many years that there is a link between inflammation in the mouth (gum disease) and heart problems, However, a recent study analyzed oral health habits and heart disease risk. Science Daily reported on the study which was published in the British Medical Journal.

I quote from the Science Daily article:

“The authors, led by Professor Richard Watt from University College London, analyzed data from over 11,000 adults who took part in a Scottish Health Survey. The research team analyzed data about lifestyle behaviors such as smoking, physical activity, and oral health routines.”

“Once the data was adjusted for established cardio risk factors, the researchers found that participants who reported less frequent toothbrushing had a 70 percent extra risk of heart disease compared to individuals who brushed their teeth twice a day.”

I am Dr.  J. Scott Anderson DDS of Willowbrook Dental Care. The Scottish survey is one of many that confirms the link between oral health and overall health. Simply put: you aren’t healthy unless your gums and teeth are healthy.

It doesn’t matter if you are a lean Cypress TX distance runner with a pulse of fifteen beats a minute and a blood pressure of 100 over 60. It doesn’t matter if you are a Cypress TX vegan who has eaten a nutritionally balanced, low-fat diet for the past five years. If you have inflamed gums and tooth decay, you are at risk for problems in other areas of the body.

The phone number for Willowbrook Dental Care is (281) 571-3760. If you have concerns about your oral health, I invite you to schedule an examination today.

Perhaps your teeth and gums are healthy but you wish your smile was more attractive. We can help you there also with a smile redesign. Porcelain veneers, crowns, inlays/onlays, and orthodontia are all available to solve any cosmetic dentistry problems you wish to correct.  We also offer sedation dentistry for patients who are anxious about dental work.

Do You Have Sore Gums?

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Affordable Houston Dentistry Every Houston dentistry patient’s mouth provides a cozy home for over 600 types of bacteria. If you are diligent about oral hygiene and have healthy gums, these microbes usually don’t affect your health. However, if you have gum disease, bacteria can enter your bloodstream through your gums and cause problems.

Gingivitis is the term for the mild gum disease. At Willowbrook Dental Care, we routinely discover gingivitis in Houston clients who are not even aware they have the condition.

The first signs of gingivitis are swollen, sore gums.

It is important for our Spring and Champion dental patients to understand that it is not normal for gums to bleed when they are brushed or flossed. If you haven’t had an oral examination in a while and live in the Houston area, call Willowbrook Dental Care at (281) 571-3760.  Dr. J. Scott Anderson thoroughly exams teeth and gums and takes time to discuss the results and recommendations with each Houston cosmetic dentistry patient.

Willowbrook Dental Care is a full-service dental practice at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, Houston, TX. We provide comprehensive general and cosmetic dentistry for clients who live in Houston and the nearby communities of Cypress, Spring and Champion.

During your dentist consultation, we can discuss any cosmetic or restorative procedures in which you are interested. Some of the Houston procedures that we use to create perfect smiles are porcelain veneers, orthodontics, dental implants and tooth whitening. Our hygienists are skilled professionals who perform the ultimate in dental deep-cleanings.

Oral health and overall health go hand in hand. Schedule a dental consultation today by calling (281) 571-3760 or visiting us online at http://www.TheHoustonCosmeticDentist.com.

Porcelain Veneers and Instant Orthodontics For Houston

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Houston Porcelain Veneers and Instant Orthodontics If you have been paying attention to the Houston orthodontics scene in recent years, you probably know about invisible braces and speed braces. These new teeth straightening procedures have been welcomed by many people, especially Houston adults who want an alternative to traditional metal braces.

There’s more good news for Houston cosmetic dentistry clients who want to straighten their teeth. How about ‘instant orthodontics’?

If you want immediate teeth straightening, you can smile sooner with porcelain veneers from Willowbrook Dental Care!

The key to achieving a celebrity smile may be porcelain veneers for your teeth from a Houston cosmetic dentist. Dr. J. Scott Anderson at Willowbrook Dental Care can help you determine if porcelain veneer dentistry is for you. Ongoing education is essential for elite cosmetic dentists who work to continually provide the latest procedures and materials for their cosmetic and orthodontic clients. We can help.

In addition to correcting tooth alignment, porcelain veneers are used to whiten teeth and restore chipped teeth in Spring and Champion. Porcelain veneers are attached to the front of teeth and often require no removal of healthy tooth structure. Another advantage? They are less expensive than complete crown restorations but look just as natural. -Actually, they look far better than most natural teeth!

For an instant orthodontic consultation, call Willowbrook Dental Care at (281) 571-3760. Porcelain veneers may be the best way for you to receive a smile makeover at a fraction of the cost.

Does My Cypress Dentist Treat Bad Breath?

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Cure Bad Breath In Cypress When my Cypress cosmetic dental clients ask me if mouthwash cures bad breath, I tell them that treating bad breath with a mouthwash is like drenching yourself with cologne instead of taking a shower. Mouthwash is only a temporary mask for odor caused by poor oral hygiene, tongue bacteria, or digestive problems.

The best-selling mouthwashes in Cypress have a significant amount of alcohol, which can even exacerbate bad breath by drying out the mouth. Some bacteria grows even faster in a dry environment.

To eliminate bad breath, you need to find the cause. To get rid of hidden bacteria multiplying between teeth, pay more attention to thorough flossing and brushing.

A haphazard thirty-second brushing won’t prevent halitosis (or cavities). Try to brush for at least three minutes. It may seem like overkill if you have been a speed-brusher but remember that there is a lot of area to cover on multiple planes.

Devise a system to brush every reachable surface of every tooth. Then floss carefully around every tooth, pulling the floss down into the space at the gumline on both sides. Brush your gums, sides of mouth, palate, and tongue, also.

Schedule a deep dental cleaning at Willowbrook Dental Care with the best hygienist in the Cypress area and request a refresher (no pun intended) course on brushing and flossing.

If your tongue is the culprit, you might want to start using a tongue scraper. Tongue scraping has become quite popular in Cypress, especially among the college crowd.

A tongue scraper is a cleaning tool that works like a squeegee to scrape bacteria and food particles off the surface of the tongue.

I am Dr. J. Scott Anderson of Willowbrook Dental Care. At Willowbrook Dental Care, we treat many Cypress dental patients with bad breath. There is no reason to feel embarrassed. (Leaving bad breath untreated can be more embarrassing.)

Schedule an oral exam and halitosis consultation by calling (281) 571-3760. At Willowbrook Dental Care, our specialty is cosmetic dentistry and we also provide porcelain veneers. Thanks for visiting our blog.

If you have persistent stains that brushing can’t remove, get your teeth bleached at Willowbrook Dental Care for a dazzling stain free smile.

Our Houston Dental Team Takes Care Of You

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Houston Dental Team

At Willowbrook Dental Care, each dental professional on our team allows our practice to operate smoothly and provide the highest caliber of dental care. Today’s Houston dentistry article will focus on the duties of a dental assistant.

You probably think of the dental assistant as: “The one who suctions my mouth while the dentist is working on me,” or “The one who attaches the bib around my neck,” and you are correct. However, his/her knowledge of patient care and dental lab procedures is probably more extensive than you realize.

Competent dental assistants work behind the scenes at Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston. They assist Dr. J. Scott Anderson during all dental procedures including basic oral examinations, tooth prep and cavity filling, as well as lengthy smile makeovers involving multiple procedures such as dental implants. Our competent assistants also work with our dental hygienists during dental cleanings and patient instruction.

When a dental client arrives for his/her appointment, the dental assistant has already been preparing for the visit. Before he/she is escorted to a comfortable chair in one of our pleasant patient rooms, the assistant has made sure the room is ready for the particular treatment being performed.

Whether the patient is receiving porcelain veneers, having their teeth whitened, undergoing a routine orthodontia adjustment, or settling in for a two-hour smile redesign with sedation dentistry, the dental assistant has set the stage for a comfortable and efficient procedure.

At Willowbrook Dental Care, infection control is always foremost in our minds. Our dental assistants, dentists, and are vigilant about the sterilization of dental instruments and follow strict infection control protocols. The health of our patients and employees is our highest priority.

Dental assistants in Houston dental offices may also prepare tray setups, make impressions for restorations, schedule appointments, take x-rays, and maintain and retrieve patient records. They must have a keen eye for detail and an excellent memory as they organize and stock the many different dental supplies in a typical office.

Willowbrook Dental Care is located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, Houston, TX. We provide general and cosmetic dental procedures including porcelain veneers and cosmetic dentistry. You can read more about our services at http://www.thehoustoncosmeticdentist.com/about.htm.
