What is ‘Crown Lengthening’?

Friday, July 15th, 2011

gummy smile surgery Perfect smiles created at Willowbrook Dental Care often require crown lengthening.

Crown lengthening surgery is a safe and effective procedure that exposes more of the visible part of the tooth. Some clients undergo crown lengthening surgery at Willowbrook Dental Care to alter their gummy smile.

A gummy smile refers to upper teeth that appear too short because excess bone and soft tissue covers part of the teeth. When a gummy smile is eliminated, our Houston patients can’t believe how it changes their whole face. They love their new smile which reveals pleasing, symmetrical portions of their upper teeth.

Sometimes, a client needs crown lengthening because of tooth fracture. When a tooth breaks at the gum line or a dental crown is fractured, crown lengthening makes tooth structure accessible for the necessary restoration.

Digital imaging is one of the technological tools that helps Houston advanced family dental professionals perform crown lengthening and other cosmetic dentistry procedures. When a Houston cosmetic dentist has a highly-detailed, 3-D image of tooth and bone structure, he/she is able to achieve the precision necessary to design smiles to the patient’s exact specifications.

If you are seeking a dental smile makeover and live in the Houston area, schedule a smile consultation by calling (281) 571-3760. We are conveniently located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, Houston, TX. When you come in, we can show you photos of Houston cosmetic dentistry clients who are enjoying their dazzling smile that was created by the skilled smile artists at Willowbrook Dental Care.  We offer sedation dentistry for patients anxious about dental work.

Affordable Houston Tooth Bleaching At Willowbrook Dental Care, we are all about success.  Dr. J. Scott Anderson’s experience, ability, and commitment to dental excellence result in successful outcomes daily for our dentistry clients. Each team member at Willowbrook Dental Care shares Dr. Anderson’s passion for success.

For many Houston dental patients, success is a routine check-up that reveals healthy teeth and no cavities. For our cosmetic dental clients, success is a stunning smile makeover using veneers, teeth whitening and tooth-colored fillings. For our Houston patients with a missing tooth, dental implants are used to successfully restore their smile. It is exciting to see implant recipients smile for the first time after receiving their new tooth implant.

We also enjoy completing successful tooth-straightening procedures for youth and adults. Though these transformations take longer than one-visit smile re-designs, the results are no less incredible. In fact, our Houston orthodontic patients probably appreciate their straight teeth and beautiful smile more than any of our other patients.  We offer Invisalign clear braces.

Success sometimes means removing tetracycline stains for a Houston teeth whitening patient who has been hiding his/her smile for years. Sometimes, success is as simple as helping a nervous patient feel relaxed and comfortable during their visit to our Houston dental office.

What do you desire for your smile? At Willowbrook Dental Care, our success depends on your complete smile satisfaction.

To meet our team and discuss your smile specifics, call Willowbrook Dental Care at (281) 571-3760.

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Houston

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Houston Hello! Welcome to the Willowbrook Dental Care blog. If this your first visit, we hope you find useful information about our Houston cosmetic dentistry practice. If you have read some of our previous articles, we are glad you checked back with us. We post new articles regularly.

My name is Dr. J. Scott Anderson, DDS. I have been practicing dentistry in Houston for many years. Willowbrook Dental Care is a full-service dental office located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, in Houston, TX. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the Houston area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.

When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, a dental restoration is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.

If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings tooth colored. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our Houston cosmetic dentistry patients have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.

Another reason some Houston clients have had their old fillings replaced is because they are concerned about the possible heavy metal toxicity of the mercury in the silver.

If you would like to replace your amalgam fillings, call us at (281) 571-3760 to schedule a consultation. We are currently accepting new patients and would be happy to show you around our Houston cosmetic dental office and introduce you to our friendly team.

We also offer cosmetic dentistry services such as dental implants and dental veneers.

Houston Tooth Restoration: Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Houston Dental Implants and Dental Bridges When my Houston clients ask me about Houston tooth restoration, I usually tell them about fixed (or ‘traditional’) dental bridges or dental implants. A dental bridge is an artificial tooth which replaces a missing tooth. The false tooth (called a ‘pontic’) is fused to porcelain crowns on either side of the missing tooth.

Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at my Houston cosmetic dental practice. Patients from the Houston area have expressed concern about tooth replacement for many years. Most of my questions in the Houston area have to do with the strength of the tooth replacement, and durability.

Dental implants are also popular concern for my Houston tooth replacement patients. A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

After it has bonded with the bone (it usually takes three to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields terrific results for Houston tooth restoration patients. My Texas cosmetic dentistry patients appreciate the fact that I stay up to date on the latest advancements in tooth replacement procedures.

Both Texas smile restoration options preserve or restore facial contour and allow you to talk and eat normally. Tooth replacements prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems, too. Tooth implants and dental bridges can replace one or more missing teeth. Many Houston area dental patients have been treated successfully with these tooth restoration alternatives.

Call Willowbrook Dental Care and ask for Dr. J. Scott Anderson to schedule an evaluation for Texas tooth restoration. You can schedule your tooth restoration by calling us at (281) 571-3760.

General Dentistry

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Houston General Dentistry What is ‘ General Dentistry ‘? Here are a couple definitions, found from around the web:

The World Health Organization defines General Dentistry as “the science and art of preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of the teeth, jaws and mouth”.

According to Wikipedia :

A dentist is a healthcare professional qualified to practice dentistry after graduating with a degree of either Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Bachelor of Dentistry (BDent), Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc), or Bachelor of Dental Surgery/Chirurgiae (BDS) or (BChD) or equivalent.

In most western countries, to become a qualified dentist one must usually complete at least 4 years of postgraduate study. Generally, 2 years of clinical experience working with patients in an educational setting are required.

What is a Canted Midline?

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Houston Cosmetic DentistsDr. J. Scott Anderson considers many factors when designing a smile for a Houston smile makeover client. One of the smile design elements involved is the facial midline. The facial midline can be determined by drawing an imaginary line from the center of the eyebrows to the center of the two peaks in the top lip (Cupid’s bow).

The skilled Houston cosmetic dentist considers the length and angle of the facial midline to properly position porcelain crowns, veneers and dental implants. When front teeth restorations do not line up with the facial midline, it is called a canted midline. This is a common mistake found in the cosmetic work of inexperienced Houston cosmetic dentists.

Most Houston dentistry patients do not realize the level of 3-D engineering required in cosmetic dentistry. In addition to the orientation in relation to the facial midline, there is also the angle and size of the teeth in relation to each other and in relation to the size and shape of the lips and gums.

If you are considering an extensive smile makeover, you do not want to trust your smile to an inexperienced Houston cosmetic dentist. When you have a smile design consultation with Dr. J. Scott Anderson feel free to ask probing questions about Dr. Anderson’s experience and technical design procedures. We are confident that you will feel comfortable choosing Dr. Anderson for your smile makeover.
