How Dental Implants are Changing Dentures in Houston

August 25th, 2010

How Dental Implants are Changing Dentures in Houston If you are one of the many denture wearers in Houston, Spring, or Cypress TX, you know that they are not the ideal solution for missing teeth.

The problems with dentures include slipping, gum irritation, trouble eating and talking, bone loss, and inability to taste food due to a covered palate. Clearly, dentures do not feel and function like natural teeth.

Good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups can help you avoid the need for dentures later in your life, but other factors can make dental replacements an inevitability.

The good news? Modern dental implant technology is making dentures a thing of the past.

At Willowbrook Dental Care we have information and expertise that can help bring hope to denture wearers through dental implant technology. There are a variety of effective denture/implant tooth configurations.

Call Willowbrook Dental Care to book an implant over-denture consultation with Doctor J. Scott Anderson. We can help you understand your options and can recommend options.

If you currently wear traditional dentures and are not happy with them, implant anchored dentures may dramatically change your life. Your chewing ability will be similar to that of natural teeth and you will be able to eat hard foods again. How about a thick T-bone at your favorite Cypress TX steakhouse? In addition to being able to enjoy your meal, you will avoid the embarrassment of having your dentures rattle around in your mouth in public.

Before you pay for another denture reline, ask your Houston dentist about the possibility of dental implants. While tooth implants are a significant investment, the dental implant cost is very reasonable when you consider they can last a lifetime.

Attention Houston denture wearers: there is life after dentures with tooth implants!

Come see us at Willowbrook Dental Care at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, Houston, TX, 77064 for more information about dental implants.

Find A Cosmetic Dentist

August 18th, 2010

It used to be that in Houston you could find a dentist just by walking down to the corner of the street. Like many small towns, there would be a dentist on the corner of ‘north and main’, just up from the fire house, and across from the bakery.

Today, finding a cosmetic dentist around Houston can take a little more time, and a little more effort. Our local Houston community is spread out a little more, and there is more than one option for finding a local dentist in Houston.

Let’s look at a few of the ways to find a local cosmetic dentist in Houston:

The old timers among us still reach for the yellow pages when we look to find a dentist in our local Houston community. The yellow pages have been a standard for dentists since the beginning, and are a quick way to get a good list of local Houston cosmetic dentists.

Studies are showing an ever increasing number of Houston consumers are turning to their Internet connection to find a dentist. To find a cosmetic dentist online can mean more than just a name and a phone number; many dentists, like us, have additional information on their website that will help you gain a better understanding of their practice and the services they provide.

Many people find a cosmetic dentist in the Houston community through printed mailers and flyers that come to your door. Houston dentists spend a lot of money on these types of flyers, which can often carry a discount opportunity or special promotion.

The most popular method used to find a local dentist? …Word of mouth. Studies have shown that people in Houston are more willing to listen to a family member or close friend when it comes to finding a local Houston cosmetic dentist.

We understand this last point, and make it our job to keep our patients happy, healthy, informed and comfortable during their visit to the dentist. We know if you leave happy, your friends and family in the Houston area will hear about us, too.

If you are looking for a cosmetic dentist in Houston, please give us a call. You can reach us at (281) 571-3760.

If you know a friend who is trying to find a dentist in the Houston area, please pass our name along.

We look forward to seeing you both!

Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston

July 28th, 2010

Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston Hello! I’m Dr. J. Scott Anderson, DDS, of Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston.

I have been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry for several years now. Dentistry is a challenging and fascinating profession; dentists must have diagnostic skills, dexterity, extensive scientific knowledge, and good visual memory. Dentistry also requires artistic ability. In addition to the technical aspects of dentistry, I really enjoy interacting with my Houston dental patients.

I recognize that my clients have other choices in Houston area dental practices, and I work continually to earn their trust and surpass their expectations.

Each dentistry client is unique. Many of my patients come in twice-yearly for an exam and cleaning. We help them maintain excellent oral health. Some cosmetic dentistry clients come to me seeking major restorative dental work. It is extremely gratifying to complete a smile makeover and see the client’s reaction when they see the result for the first time. We even offer sedation dentistry for clients who feel nervous or anxious about dental visits.

When I have a pre-treatment consultation with a new dentistry client, it is very informative for both of us. The patient learns the specifics about the possible procedures and I learn about the clients’ goals, concerns and expectations. Then I work with the client to develop a dental treatment plan that fits the patient’s needs, desired outcome and budget.

My dental practice is located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste. 200, Houston, TX in Houston. If you are looking for an experienced sedation and cosmetic dentist in the Houston area, call (281) 571-3760 to schedule a consultation.

I look forward to meeting with you.

Houston Prepless Veneers

July 21st, 2010

Houston Prepless Veneers One of the latest breakthroughs in Houston cosmetic dentistry is prepless veneers. Though thousands of smile restoration clients who have received traditional veneers are happy with the results, some Texas dental patients have delayed this procedure because they do not want to lose healthy tooth structure.

Prepless veneers in the Houston area are a less-invasive procedure for transforming smiles. Prepless veneers are incredibly thin shells which adhere to the face of teeth and require no removal of tooth enamel. Most prepless veneers are about the thickness of two pieces of paper. Because the color is built into the veneers (instead of being applied after fabrication), they look like your natural teeth–only better!

Our experienced Texas ceramists are skilled artists. They create each custom dental veneer with the optimum shape, color and thickness for your new smile. Another great feature of the prepless veneers application procedure is that it requires no anesthesia or drilling.

If you are embarrassed by misaligned, discolored or broken teeth, prepless veneers may be a Houston smile restoration solution that you can feel good about.

Call Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston to learn more about prepless veneers. It is the first step toward your dazzling new smile!

Periodontal Disease in Texas

July 13th, 2010

Periodontal Disease in Texas Periodontal disease in Texas is more common than you might think, and can be cured with varying degrees of treatment depending on the severity.

What is periodontal disease? According to this article on Wikipedia, periodontal disease is ‘the name of a collection of inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues that surround and support the teeth.’

Periodontal disease, more commonly called ‘gum disease’, is an inflammation or infection of the gums. Periodontal disease can be very painful in some extreme conditions, and can limit your ability to eat normally. In some cases, periodontal disease can affect your smile, and can create cosmetic dental concerns.

If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause irreversible damage. When caught early and treated, periodontal disease can be little more than an inconvenience. However the best policy is to practice good dental hygiene to keep periodontal disease at bay.

One of the best ways to avoid periodontal disease is to get a regular dental check up at your local Houston dentist.

Give us a call at (281) 571-3760 to schedule your next dental checkup; we look forward to seeing you.

Cavity Fighting Chewing Gum For Our Houston Patients?

June 24th, 2010

Houston Oral Dentistry I’m Dr. J. Scott Anderson DDS of Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston. My Houston dentistry clients often ask me if chewing xylitol gum is an effective substitute for tooth brushing and regular Houston dental exams.

Before I answer that question, let me tell you a little bit about xylitol:

Xylitol is a natural sweetener that was first discovered in birch tree bark but is also found in many fruits and vegetables. Unlike most other sweeteners (natural or synthetic), xylitol is actually good for your teeth. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that xylitol prevents the growth of the bacteria that initiates decay. It also reduces plaque and strengthens tooth enamel.

Xylitol has other benefits, as well. Because it is low on the glycemic index, many of my Cypress diabetic patients enjoy it as a healthy alternative to sugar. If my Champion cosmetic dentistry patients complain about frequent dry mouth, I recommend Xylitol gum or mints to stimulate saliva production without promoting tooth decay.

Now, back to the golden question. Is xylitol gum just as effective as brushing your teeth and seeing your Houston dentist regularly? Absolutely not! If you cannot brush your teeth after a meal, chewing xylitol gum for five or ten minutes is probably a good idea. However, you should still brush your teeth thoroughly (with a soft brush) after meals and get twice-yearly exams and oral dentistry deep cleanings at your Houston dentistry clinic.

At Willowbrook Dental Care, our goal is to keep your smile healthy and beautiful for life by preventing dental problems before they start. If you postpone Spring dental visits until you feel pain, you risk losing teeth and most certainly will require more extensive treatment than if the problem was caught earlier. Is it time for a dental exam? Call us at (281) 571-3760 to book an appointment. Our technically advanced and friendly is waiting to take care of all your dental needs.

Clear Braces - Nearly Invisible Teeth Straightening for Houston Adults

June 16th, 2010

Clear Braces - Nearly Invisible Teeth Straightening for Houston Adults If you want to straighten your teeth or correct a bite problem, you have more orthodontic options in Houston than ever before. The current menu of orthodontic treatments requires a whole new glossary. Here are some of the common orthodontia terms heard around Champion and Houston.

Invisible Braces
These braces are just as effective at realigning adult teeth as the traditional ‘metal and wires’ kind but are almost completely hidden. Many Houston adults and teens who straighten their teeth choose this type of orthodontia.

Invisible braces work great for many Houston braces patients. To find out if Invisalign braces are the best type for your teeth, lifestyle and budget, schedule an orthodontic consultation at Willowbrook Dental Care by calling (281) 571-3760. We can help you determine which type of adult braces system is right for you and your smile.

Traditional and Clear Retainers
Once a Houston clear braces or traditional braces patient has completed treatment, retainers must be worn regularly to keep the beautiful straight teeth in their corrected position. There are several types of retainers available for Houston cosmetic dental patients. The time-tested Hawley retainer consists of a metal wire that surrounds the teeth and keeps them from shifting. The metal wire is attached to a molded acrylic form that fits snugly in the upper mouth (palate) or lower mouth.

Clear retainers are newer on the Spring orthodontic scene. They cover the teeth like a see-through glove and do not need metal bows or clasps. Some Cypress retainer wearers believe clear retainers are more comfortable than Hawley retainers.

You don’t need to suffer with a mouth full of metal to get the beautiful teeth you are seeking. Let us help you develop a custom treatment plan for your smile.
